Clerkenwell Design Week
Hope everyone had a lovely May and enjoyed the sunshine. I have slowly been moving into my garden office and have enjoyed sitting at my desk looking out onto the garden in the sunshine. I’m working in here as I type this and it’s very peaceful, I have a candle burning, I have a beautiful plant on my desk and I am surrounded by all things design! It’s brought me a little bit of joy during my difficult time.
Me and my Study Buddies!
Something that happens in May is Clerkenwell Design Week which is a three-day design festival held annually in London which showcases designers and brands from the UK and around the world. I visited on its first day and as much as I go for the design inspiration and the incredibly interesting talks I also love going to meet up with my beautiful Hub Insider friends who I met when I was studying my Diploma in Interior Design with The Interior Designers Hub. We started studying at a similar time and over the weeks and months we met online for our weekly debrief with our tutor in our group huddle and became good friends. We now try to meet up for design exhibitions and it was so lovely to see them at Clerkenwell. Spending time with good people is sometimes just the tonic you need!

We were very lucky and went on the only good weather day that week! Our first stop was an interesting discussion about whether the use of AI will affect the Interior Design industry. We then wandered round some beautiful shops such as Ferm Living, J. Adams & Co. and Domus Tiles (my personal favourite as you can see from the photo!) and then we headed to the lighting exhibition. I love exploring different lighting designs as I am a big fan of unusual types of light fittings and lamps. After a lovely lunch we headed to 2 more talks, one explored the 5 winning New London Architecture projects for 2025 and I really enjoyed listening to Nina Woodcroft from Nina & Co. who transformed her 1970s semi detached home into an energy efficient home for herself and her family. The exterior of the house is wrapped in panels of expanded cork! The talk was fascinating and was an interesting end to the day.

As it’s been half term this month I have spent some time with my family and we had a lovely weekend away in our caravan, something I must share photos of with you one day. We’ve had it for just over a year and always try to make use of the Bank Holiday weekends by going away. This time we didn’t go far, a campsite only 40 minutes from our house but it was nice to have a change of scene and enjoy the fresh air. The caravan is a good example of how I improved the interior on a budget. Just by adding some removeable seat covers and some personal touches we have made it our own little cosy space and it’s somewhere we really enjoy spending time in.
Speaking of enjoying spending time in a space….have you seen my social media posts lately with news on the cabin? I have shared how it all started, from the dismantle to the rebuild and will soon be sharing how I transformed the interior.
If you would like me to transform your interior and make your space a happy place, please get in touch with me at sophielawsinteriors@outlook.com and head on over to my website www.sophielawsinteriors.co.uk to see my previous projects.
