Tricky Spaces
Welcome to my August blog! Hope you’re well and enjoying the ‘summer’, some of it hasn’t been too bad but my gosh the rain!
If you’ve kept an eye on my social media you will have seen that I visited an amazing restaurant recently. It’s called Feast on Cloud 9 and it was fabulous! We were incredibly lucky with the weather and we sat in a (grounded) hot air balloon on the surroundings of The Grove and ate a delicious 3 course meal which was fairground themed. It is definitely worth a visit, I highly recommend!
As it’s the summer holidays I have had a busy few weeks entertaining my little munchkins. We visited Hobbledown in Epsom last week and had a brilliant time! It has an amazing play area for kids with underground tunnels and also animals you can get up close to.
At this time of year even though I am in the throes of the summer holidays I do like to get myself prepared for September with the aim of being organised and building strong routines for the children going back to school. I have this space under the stairs which has proved quite tricky for me over the years. I’ve never quite managed to work out a good use of this space as not only is it small, it is awkward as well. I think this time I have found a solution!

I sourced these storage units from Homebase. My original thought was to order them from Ikea but luckily I measured the space first as the Ikea Kallax units were too big for this area. I found them in Homebase, ordered online and did a seamless click and collect. When building, I left one shelf out so there was space for the school bag to hang which I have since attached hooks for. Now the children have a space for their bag, shoes and coat which not only tidies up their school essentials and utilises an awkward, small space, it has given them a bit of independence before and after school as they can pick up and put away their bag, coats and shoes. Well, that is the idea anyway!

Do you have an awkward space that you’re unsure what to do with? Before making any decisions, consider what you need in your home, it needs to have a purpose or it will just become a dumping ground and no one needs that in their home!
Here someone has utilised a difficult space by making it into a home office with a made to measure desk. Now that working from home has become so common it is a really good way to fill an unused area.
Home office in an awkward space
In a room with a sloped ceiling such as a loft conversion built in, made to measure wardrobes make use of every inch of available space to ensure those awkward areas are filled. They also look smart and help give the room an organised, tidy vibe!

In any small space, mirrors are a useful tool to making space feel larger and brighter by reflecting light and creating the illusion of depth. Strategically placed mirrors can make a significant difference in how a room is perceived, making it feel more open and spacious.
