Rechargeable Lights

How was your April? Mine was busy as my children had 2 weeks off for the school holidays so the weeks leading up to and after were busy catching up with work so that during the holidays I could give them my full attention. I really tried to vary the things we did, we went to some country parks, had playdates with friends, we even managed to squeeze in a very short trip in our caravan to Faversham. Of course, we did an Easter egg hunt in the garden!

During the first week we went to visit my lovely friend and behavioural expert, Nicola Carey-Shine, who has the most amazing ‘Peter Pan’ forest! Nicola runs the Learn to Shine School, a holistic alternative provision for children with SEN. Nicola offers bespoke educational services, workshops with inspirational neurodiverse speakers, and advocates for families fighting for support. The space Nicola and her husband Rob have created is so nurturing and magical! My children absolutely loved exploring and found it hilarious when the pigs followed them around, yes pigs! Nicola has 2 pigs (Del Boy & Rodney, aka ‘The Trotters’!), 3 rabbits, 4 chickens, 3 guinea pigs and dog called Stevie. Not to mention the million fish. This space is a calming environment for animal therapy, sensory art, and confidence building for learners who struggle with traditional schooling. Nicola’s love for teaching and love for her students is incredible, and seeing all her awards and certificates was awe inspiring. I am incredibly lucky that Nicola offered advice and guidance for my Home Design Guide for ADHD and is currently doing the same for my home guide for Autism which will be available to purchase from Monday!

The amazing Learn to Sine School forest!

Now the kids are back at school I can fully focus on work and this month I want to talk about rechargeable lights. I popped into Pooky, one of my favourite lighting shops, when I was in London for Design Week and they have quite the selection of rechargeable lights. Do you have any in your home?

Rechargeable lights are wireless, battery powered LED lighting fixtures which mean you don’t need any wiring so if you’re not a DIY-er maybe these are the right lights for you! One of the benefits of this type of lighting is that it is so flexible, you can place it anywhere. It doesn’t need to be near a socket so if you want it on a bookshelf or on a table in the middle of the room you can because you won’t have a wire which also makes it more attractive, cords can be pretty ugly! You can even take it out to the garden if you want to for those chilled evenings enjoying summer socialising. The beauty of rechargeable lights is that there is no need for a professional electrician, if you want wall mounted sconces for either side of the bed you can do that without it costing a fortune.

Rechargeable Light, Pooky

Many rechargeable lights are dimmable which means you are in control of the brightness of the light. This is particularly useful in a Neurodivergent household where bright lighting can lead to sensory dysregulation.

They are also energy efficient, they use 80% less energy than traditional lamps due to modern LED technology and you don’t have to worry about disposing of any batteries as the battery is charged up. Another amazing benefit of this type of lighting is that if you have a power cut, you will still have light!

Aside from all of those benefits, look how pretty they are! I am such a big fan of Pooky lights but you can also purchase rechargeable lights from Next, Dusk, Value Lights plus many other retailers.

Do you ned help selecting right type of lighting for your home? If so, please contact me via email sophielawsinteriors@outlook.com or have a look at my website, www.sophielawsinteriors.co.uk and I will be so excited to help you make your space a happy place!
